The annual economic losses amount to between 1% and 2.5% of GDP, with the majority of these costs coming from premature deaths, including children under the age of 5.

At Sanitation and Water for All High Level Meeting, almost 40 developing countries made pledges that will provide an additional 60 million people with improved drinking water sources and another 80 million people with access to improved sanitation.
